Twenty years ago, St John Paul the Great called on the faithful of the Church to ‘remember the past with gratitude, live the present with enthusiasm and look forward to the future with confidence’.

Jim MilesWith that same gratitude, enthusiasm and confidence, we come together to celebrate 200 years of Catholic education in Australia.

In what is MACS’ foundation year, we are grateful to the generations of dedicated Catholic educators who used their ‘present’ to enthusiastically build a schooling system with only their faith in the future for what might lie ahead.

That MACS’ journey begins in the two-hundredth year of Catholic education is something very special.

Over the course of this year, we will celebrate the bicentenary, beginning with our Catholic Education Week celebrations in March.

On 24 May, the Feast of Our Lady Help of Christians, Catholic school communities across the country will gather to participate in a national thanksgiving Mass to honour the great legacy of Catholic education.

I would also encourage you to find ways to celebrate this great milestone in your own school and parish communities.

I look forward to sharing this year of celebration with you.

Jim Miles
Executive Director
