Prue Kenny is one of the speakers at the upcoming Young Speakers Colloquium which will be held on Thursday 17 March at the Catholic Leadership Centre, as part of Catholic Education Week. She will be sharing some of her remarkable experiences with current secondary students.

Prue is a 2004 Sacred Heart College Alumna who was College Captain in her final year. ‘I set out from Year 12 with a loose agenda and Catholic education under my belt. I felt in good stead’, said Prue.

She attended Deakin University to study Law and Commerce. ‘I decided to study law because I was drawn to the idea of being able to find solutions to people’s problems by applying the law, where it was possible. I always have enjoyed a challenge too, and I could see that law would provide the challenge I was after in my career.’

Her love of basketball took her to Florida where she played and studied at Stetson University, and then Copenhagen in Denmark. Prue completed an internship at the United Nations War Crimes Tribunal for Rwanda, based in Tanzania and then in New York City at United Nations Headquarters in 2013. Following this, Prue worked for an international court based out of Sierra Leone, West Africa and the Dutch city of The Hague. ‘These experiences all came about with a combination of initiative, faith and persistence.’

Prue returned from New York in July 2015 to become the Legal Counsel for World Vision Australia. She is also currently studying her Master of Laws at the University of Melbourne, part-time. ‘My catholic education provided me with strength and grace that I believe has enabled certain events in my life to pan out better than perhaps they would have ordinarily.’

'I am very much looking forward to sharing some of my experiences and my observations of life since secondary school with the students at the Young Speakers Colloquium, and am delighted to have been invited to speak at this special occasion.’
