Estella Bubulya from St Mary’s School in Malvern East has been named Sports Reporter of the Year (Primary) by Kids News for her profile of Paralympian Shae Graham.

Estella’s compelling interview with Shae explores her journey from first trying wheelchair rugby, her hard work and injuries, juggling training with her day job, through to winning a bronze medal for Australia at the 2024 Paralympic Games. Estella also quotes Shae’s motto: ‘Dream big and work hard, and once you’ve achieved that, dream bigger!’, and her plans to play and coach in the future.

As a contributor to the school’s student newspaper, Mary-Go-Round, Estella and other participants in the enrichment program took the opportunity to submit their articles to the Junior Journalist competition run by Kids News – News Corp Australia’s news-based literacy tool for classrooms.

The articles of Estella, Toby and Isabella were all selected for publication on the Kids News website, showing how Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) schools nurture young voices to grow with confidence, and contribute to their communities and beyond.
