Role Description/Criteria
At St Padre Pio Catholic Primary School, we are a Christ-centred learning community inspired by the life and witness of St Padre Pio. We are called to pray, hope, and thrive together as we nurture the spiritual, academic, social, and emotional growth of every learner.
The Position:
The position is full-time, with the successful applicant fulfilling an important executive role, together with the principal, in the formation of St Padre Pio as a new school. The Deputy Principal – Learning and Teaching Leader, is a key member of the school’s Leadership Team and is responsible for leading and enhancing high-quality teaching and learning across the school. This role supports the Principal in the strategic and operational leadership of the school, with a specific focus on curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, and professional learning.
It is important to note that initially the position will most probably include teaching hours. As we grow the role will evolve and become exclusively the Deputy Principal.
The position is advertised as a three-year appointment beginning January 27th 2026, whereby the position will be re-advertised, with the applicant being able to reapply if needed.
The Opportunity:
As Deputy Principal – Learning and Teaching Leader, you will:
- Collaborate closely with the Principal to shape and implement a visionary curriculum that inspires both students and staff towards achieving the MACS 2030 Vision for Instruction.
- Lead pedagogical innovation, drawing on evidence-based learning practices to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
- Support the development of Professional Learning Teams (PLTs) and instructional coaching processes.
- Mentor and support teachers, fostering a culture of continuous professional growth and reflective practice.
- Oversee the development and monitoring of whole-school assessment and reporting practices.
- Facilitate collaborative planning and reflection processes that promote consistency, innovation, and improved student outcomes.
- Champion student wellbeing, child safety and academic excellence, ensuring a holistic approach to education.
- Engage with our school community, strengthening partnerships with families and parish to enrich the educational experience.
- Assist the Principal with the day-to-day leadership and management of the school.
- Act as Principal in their absence as required.
- Support compliance with policies relating to curriculum, assessment, staff development, and child safety.

- Understand and uphold the requirements of the Child Safe Standards and relevant legislative obligations.

Qualifications and Accreditation Required:
- Full VIT Registration.
- Accreditation to Teach Religious Education in a Catholic School (or working toward).
- Relevant postgraduate qualifications in educational leadership (desirable).
- Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in Catholic primary education.
