About the role

Sacred Heart School strives for excellence and equity. We are located in the heart of Oakleigh, a vibrant, multi-cultural community. We currently have a student population of approximately 196 students. 

The community of Sacred Heart is seeking applications from suitably qualified and experienced teachers to begin in January 2026. The successful applicant will embrace a shared role of Deputy Principal/Wellbeing and be employed at Sacred Heart in an ongoing capacity with the Deputy Principal role being a 3 year contract with provision for an extension of a further two years.

The successful applicant will:

  • lead and model the mission, vision, and values of Sacred Heart through visible, faith-based leadership grounded in service
  • provide strategic leadership in curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, and professional learning with an emphasis on wellbeing
  • demonstrate an understanding of the MACS Vision for Instruction and Vision for Engagement and an ability to lead the embedding of these within the school
  • drive the school’s Wellbeing framework, ensuring it reflects contemporary, evidence-based practice.
  • collaborate with Leaders to design, implement, and evaluate high-impact learning programs.
  • lead and work collaboratively to coordinate the Wellbeing Team including the Learning Diversity Leader, school Counsellor and the Learning Support Officers
  • build strong, cohesive staff relationships and promote a culture of collaboration and shared accountability.
  • provide a learning environment, which is inclusive, stimulating, affirming and safe.
  • nurture and develop the whole person, encompassing all learning areas while recognising individual talents and needs
  • participate in the traditions of our Catholic faith, striving to create an active, vibrant community enriched by the diverse cultures our families bring
  • provide a child safe environment in accordance with the child safe standards.
  • support staff induction and professional growth through structured coaching and feedback. 
  • foster positive communication with families and the parish community..

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • A deep commitment to Catholic education and the mission of the Church.
  • A strong understanding of contemporary research, curriculum design, and the Science of Learning.
  • Proven leadership in driving school improvement and professional learning.
  • The capacity to build trust, lead collaboratively, and inspire others.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to child safety, inclusion, and wellbeing.

Applicants require:

  • Current VIT registration
  • Evidence of qualifications additional to initial teacher education showing a commitment to ongoing professional learning and development. Masters preferred.
  • Relevant experience in Catholic parish primary schools, or currently in a role associated with and supporting Catholic parish primary schools
  • Accreditation to teach Religious Education
  • Effective interpersonal and organisational skills
  • A commitment to Child Safe Standards and the wellbeing of children
