Flourishing Learners
Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) aspires to become the benchmark for excellence in teaching and learning by providing a coherently integrated and academically competitive education for all students, regardless of their background or circumstances.
Our Vision for Instruction, Vision for Engagement and Vision for Leadership act together to set out how we will deliver this promise to our students, families and staff, and achieve the vision of our MACS 2030 strategy: that every student is inspired and enabled to flourish and enrich the world.
Students need to feel safe and have a positive sense of belonging to be engaged in their learning, sustain their attention in school, discover their passion and achieve their potential.
Vision for Instruction is MACS’ system-wide blueprint how our teachers teach and our students learn, formalising our explicit instruction teaching methods and providing the curriculum resources our teachers need to lead excellence and equity in all MACS classrooms.
Vision for Engagement focuses on creating the conditions in which learning can thrive. It’s a MACS’ system-wide roadmap to optimising classrooms and schools for learning, through explicit teaching of respectful behaviour, shared expectations, and consistent reinforcement.
Vision for Leadership orientates us on the common path of education and leadership, towards educational excellence and impact.
Together, our three Vision statements present our holistic response to the unprecedented challenges young people face today. They set the direction, language and bold intent for who we are, how we teach and how we drive belonging across all our schools.
They are the culmination of years of global research on how students learn best, analysis of the most successful teaching methods, emerging research on student attention and wellbeing, as well as input from teachers in our own schools.
