Learning Support Officer
Our Lady Help of Christians, Eltham
Our Lady Help of Christians (OLHC) invites applications for a Learning Support Officer (LSO) to join our committed Learning Diversity Team. This is a fixed-term position, with potential for extension, and days and hours of work to be discussed with the successful candidate.
About the Role
At OLHC, LSOs collaborate with teachers, the Learning Diversity Leader, and other staff to provide essential support for students with diverse learning and behavioural needs. This role will primarily involve working one-on-one with a student, providing individualised support to assist with learning, behavioural, and personal care needs, ensuring the student’s inclusion and success in all aspects of school life.
Key aspects of the role include:
- Providing dedicated one-on-one support for a student with diverse needs, both in the classroom and in small group settings.
- Assisting with personal care needs when required, ensuring dignity and comfort for the student.
- Preparing resources to support learning and engagement.
- Observing and recording the student’s progress toward learning goals.
- Participating in Program Support Group (PSG) meetings and supporting related administrative tasks.
- Assisting with duty responsibilities such as First Aid, office relief, and playground supervision.
This role, funded through NCCD, is vital in fostering inclusion and success for students across all aspects of school life.
Key Selection Criteria
- A commitment to Catholic education, school values, and maintaining a child-safe environment.
- Experience working with students with diverse needs, including ASD (highly valued).
- Strong communication, adaptability, and a team-focused approach.
- A high level of confidentiality and professionalism in supporting students and families.
- A current Working With Children Check (mandatory).
