Role Description/Criteria

The position

We are seeking an Instrumental Music Specialist – Voice to join our Music community in a 0.6 FTE ongoing role commencing January 2026 with the scope for this to grow.

Instrumental Music Specialists (IMS’s) report to the Head of Instrument Department and ultimately to Director of Music. There is approximately 3.5 days of work available with potential for the role to be shared across two applicants.

The successful candidate must be an experienced voice teacher and choral conductor. The successful candidate must be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Proficient keyboard skills are also desirable. 

IMS’s are appointed to assist in the provision of instrumental programs, both within the Music curriculum and as part of the School’s broader Music Program. IMS’s are responsible for overseeing their individual programs and for the progress of the students they tutor. They have the overarching goal of enabling every student to participate in the musical life of the School to the best of her ability.

Responsibilities of the role will include;

  • Tutor an allocated list of instrumental students from beginner to advanced levels (VCE and Diploma)
  • Liaise with the Director of Music and the relevant Head of Department in relation to student progress, repertoire, student assessment and performances, ensemble planning and the pastoral needs of students
  • Foster a standard of excellence in music performance in examinations, recitals, concerts and other performance activities
  • Direct Music Ensembles as required by the Director of Music
  • Other duties as outlined in the position description

About You

The successful candidate will be an experienced Voice specialist familiar with AMEB and VCE syllabi. You will have excellent performance skills gained through training or experience in a wide range of musical styles. Your excellent communication and organisational skills coupled with an ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic working environment will be critical to your success in the role. 

Relevant tertiary qualifications in music with other accreditations relevant to the role will be highly regarded. A VIT registration is desirable. A WWCC is required if not VIT registered.

Experienced in planning lessons, organising practice schedules, and managing learning activities efficiently will be essential as will your experience in assessing student progress and providing constructive feedback to encourage improvement and a love for music. This includes differentiated teaching for students with specific learning requirements or individual learning plans.

The successful candidate will understand the importance of shaping students musical experience through involvement in a busy and engaging ensemble program – specifically a thriving choral tradition.
