Role Description/Criteria
Good Samaritan Catholic Primary School is seeking an experienced and compassionate School Counsellor to join our wellbeing team. This role supports the emotional, social and developmental needs of students and contributes to a safe, inclusive and faith-filled Catholic school community.
About the Role
The School Counsellor will:
- Provide individual and small-group counselling for students.
- Use child-centred, trauma-informed and evidence-based practices.
- Support students experiencing family separation, social/emotional challenges or complex family dynamics.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, parents and school leadership.
- Maintain accurate records and meet Child Safety and MACS requirements.
- Contribute to restorative practices and the Catholic mission of the school.
About You
You will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work, counselling or a related field.
- Experience working therapeutically with children (5–12).
- Knowledge of child development, trauma-informed practice and mandatory reporting requirements.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and families.
- Commitment to Catholic ethos, Gospel values and school community life.
Requirements
- Current Working With Children Check.
- Eligibility for professional membership (e.g., AHPRA, AASW, ACA, PACFA).
- Understanding of Victorian Child Safety Standards.
