Role Description/Criteria

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop Catholic Parish Primary School (SMCM) in Epping North is a vibrant, faith-filled community that values diversity and student-centered learning. With a focus on evidence-based teaching and well-being practices, we aim to support the development of each child, ensuring they thrive academically, socially and spiritually. With a commitment to inclusivity and high-quality education, SMCM fosters an environment where every student can flourish. 

We are seeking an innovative and collaborative curriculum leader and skilled classroom practitioner to support the ongoing improvement of learning and teaching across our school. This leadership role works closely with the Principal, Leadership Team and Curriculum Leaders to drive evidence-based practice aligned with our School Improvement Plan and the MACS Vision for Instruction. The Learning & Teaching Leader is a fulltime position and a major leadership role in our school. 

The Learning & Teaching Leader's responsibilities include:

  • Leading curriculum development and whole-school pedagogical practices across F–6
  • Supporting staff growth through coaching, professional learning and peer observation
  • Using assessment and student data to improve learning outcomes
  • Overseeing curriculum planning, assessment schedules, reporting and NAPLAN processes
  • Leading Digital Technologies initiatives and maintaining eSmart accreditation
  • Collaborating with staff, students and families to strengthen learning partnerships
  • Supporting school operations, compliance and strategic priorities

The successful applicant will be a highly organised and relational leader with strong curriculum knowledge, a commitment to evidence-based practice and the ability to build staff capacity through collaboration and coaching.

Requirements:

  • VIT registration
  • Accreditation to teach in Catholic School and/or committed to providing a Catholic education for all students
  • Committed to upholding the SMCM Child Safety Policy and Code of Conduct
  • Experience with evidence-based instruction, particularly in alignment with the MACS Vision for Instruction
  • Post graduate qualifications or a commitment to a postgraduate qualification in the next 2 years.
  • Dedicated to catering for the individual needs of students in a school wide positive behaviour for learning environment
  • Committed to building authentic relationships with all staff, children and families
  • Proven communication, organisational and time management skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a spirit of collegiality within a team
  • Demonstrate capacity to lead and manage in ways that values and upholds high expectations of staff and students and that promote learning, growth and success
  • Demonstrate ability to reflect on one’s own practise and commitment to ongoing professional learning and growth in the areas of education and leadership
  • Proven commitment to our Catholic Tradition and Community & Family Engagement.
