Holy Name School in Reservoir is the first school in the City of Darebin to plant a Gallipoli Oak as an enduring symbol of the community’s commitment to remembering those who sacrificed so much.

World War II veteran Pat Cahir joined the school community for the planting of the oak on Monday. Pat’s family have had a long association with Holy Name and Catholic education over many generations, and his great grandchildren Scarlett and Lily are currently students at Holy Name. The girls asked Pat about the importance of the Gallipoli Oak as well as the changes to the school since it first opened in 1939.

The seedling’s origins can be traced back to the acorns that were sent home to Australia by soldiers serving overseas in the First World War.
