Celebrating Mother's Day at St Columba's
15 May 2017
On Friday 12 May,
St Columba’s School, Elwood, celebrated Mother’s Day with a liturgy for the mothers and grandmothers of the school community. As one mum commented, ‘It makes us feel like we are part of a community’.
The students, led by the Year 6 leaders, organised a beautiful assembly to celebrate Mother’s Day and it was wonderful that so many from the school community were able to join the celebrations at the school hall for the occasion.
‘It is a great opportunity for children to show appreciation for their mums in this busy world we live in. It is important to just take some time out to stop and remind ourselves about how lucky we all are.’
There was a wonderful team who helped organise the Mother’s Day breakfast and the Prep mothers helped with the Mother’s day stall. Some of the community commented that the event was ‘Warming and heartening and highlights family’ and ‘I love the dads participating and that it is multi-generational’.
A gourmet breakfast (catered by one of the school's families) began at 8am and the hall was alive with warmth, laughter and the catching up of friends. It is ‘Great that teachers are a part of the breakfast – it is inclusive’, said one mum.
St Columba’s Mother’s Day breakfast and liturgy has grown each year with so many parents taking the opportunity to come along and be a part of the ‘little school with the big heart’.
