Works have officially commenced on construction of Mickleham’s newest school – Holy Cross Catholic Primary School.

Principal Mark Miatello said the start of construction on the school’s $6 million first stage marked an exciting new chapter.

‘Stage one will include 10 general learning areas, breakout spaces, staff and student amenities, meeting rooms, outdoor learning, playground and basketball court’, Mr Miatello said. ‘And with so many young families in the area, we are already seeing huge demand for enrolments.’

Mr Miatello has more than 20 years experience leading and teaching in Catholic schools across Melbourne’s northern suburbs, and said he was looking forward to the ‘unique opportunity’ of building a school ‘from the ground up’.

‘I’m looking forward to drawing on my experience and passion, as well as the latest research, to ensure all students at Holy Cross achieve success’, he said.

He said one of his ‘first and most important priorities’ is gathering his team of teachers to foster learning in students.

‘I will be looking for teachers who are dedicated to providing an inclusive, rigorous learning environment that challenges and engages young people to grow as passionate learners’, Mr Miatello said. ‘My greatest desire is to ensure that all of our students at Holy Cross Mickleham flourish as learners.’
