The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) Achievement Awards 2020 were announced on Friday, with three of Melbourne’s Catholic schools recognised.

The VCAL Achievement Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of young people who have participated in and completed a VCAL qualification. The awards also recognise the exceptional efforts of the teachers and community partners who have played significant roles in the development and delivery of VCAL programs.

Congratulations to the following recipients from schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne:

  • Marymede Catholic College, South Morang, was awarded the Intermediate Team Achievement Award for their creation of an activity about sustainability for Year 4 students.
  • Mater Christi College, Belgrave, was awarded the Intermediate Team Achievement Award for their project to support the needs of rough sleepers during COVID-19 restrictions.
  • Ella Brebner from St Columba’s College, Essendon, was awarded the Senior Work Related Skills Award in recognition of her maturity and commitment to all aspects of the VCAL program.

In addition to the awards to schools, the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria Ltd (CECV) Pathways and Transition team was awarded the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) Chair’s Award. The award recognises the team’s outstanding contribution and support towards the delivery and promotion of VCAL for Catholic schools across Melbourne and Victoria.
