‘Aspire not to have more, but to be more’, said St Oscar Romero. These words have inspired the theme for this year’s Project Compassion.

The launch was held at St Joseph’s College, Ferntree Gully, and streamed via Zoom for other schools to join. On arrival, students from St Joseph’s played music, which is featured in the video below.

During the launch, the students learned about the work of Project Compassion through Jamila’s story and also heard from guest speaker Ranmal Samarawickrama, Caritas Program Manager for Asia, who said: ‘Everywhere you look you will see hope, if you choose to look for it, and also every little bit that you do will make a difference.’

The event also included a message from Archbishop Peter A Comensoli and a song by Genevieve Bryant, who attended via Zoom.

Project Compassion is the work of Caritas Australia, which is the international aid and development organisation of the Catholic Church in Australia.
