Holy Cross Catholic Primary School, Mickleham, and St Lawrence of Brindisi Catholic Primary School, Weir Views.15 September 2021

Despite the current challenges, Melbourne’s two newest Catholic primary schools are well on track to open in January 2022.

Holy Cross Catholic Primary School, Mickleham, and St Lawrence of Brindisi Catholic Primary School, Weir Views, have been under construction since earlier this year to provide opportunities for families in Melbourne’s growing northern and western suburbs. Now, many months into the building projects, the school buildings are emerging and ready for their first intake of students at the beginning of next year.

‘Our families have been really impressed by the pace of the building work and the development of the grounds’, said Bill Hill, foundation principal of St Lawrence of Brindisi Catholic Primary School. ‘What they’re seeing is more than buildings rising out of the ground. They’re watching a community taking shape: a community that they’re looking forward to being part of.’

In Mickleham, the signs and symbols of our Catholic faith being incorporated into the buildings has provided a very special moment. ‘When the cross appeared as part of the junior building, it was clear to all of us that we’re building something very special here’, said Mark Miatello, foundation principal of Holy Cross Catholic Primary School. ‘During uncertain times, this has been a beacon of light for all of the students and their families who will be part of this school in just a few months.’
