welcome mural1 February 2022

A new mural at Catholic Regional College, St Albans, is helping to break down language barriers as well as providing an enduring message of welcome for the community.

The final design for the welcome mural consists of over 40 flora and fauna images representing the cultural groups within the school. The word ‘welcome’ is woven through the mural in many different languages, as is the college’s symbol of the olive branch. The mural was completed during the school holidays in time to welcome the students back for the beginning of 2022.

Developed by a group of students in conjunction with artist Sasha Heath, the mural adorns a large wall as part of the college’s outdoor stage. The students spoke about a design that would represent the cultural diversity of the college community, and welcome students and families representing over 40 different countries.
