On Friday, SBS News visited Mother of God School, Ardeer, and Stella Maris School, Beaumaris, to highlight their work supporting four newly arrived Ukrainian students.

Students and staff at both schools have done an outstanding job welcoming the students, and helping them adjust to their new country and their new school.

Principal at Stella Maris School, Yvan Frederic, said the school was focused on giving the students ‘some joy, and some opportunities for the girls to feel included in the school community through the turmoil they and their families are going through’.

The story is an example of the Catholic sector’s commitment to making sure every child gets what they need to achieve their potential.

As principal at Mother of God School, Assunta Iacovino notes ‘one of our pillars is to welcome all people, especially the most vulnerable’.
