Students from St Francis de Sales Catholic Primary School, Lynbrook, have been responding to the conflict in Ukraine by adding some sweetness to their community.

A bake sale organised by Year 6 students Mia and Zoe has raised over $3000 to support impacted families. For Mia, who has Ukrainian heritage, the motivation was clear. ‘I wanted to raise money and awareness of the conflict that is happening, and make something that people will like’, she said.

For the school’s principal, Christine White, the action by the students has brought pride to the school community. ‘This amazing initiative makes us very proud’, she said. ‘These students exemplify what Catholic education means to our young people. Their selflessness in thinking of practical ways to support others in need is a tribute to everything we strive to do for our young people here at St Francis de Sales.’
