Launch of the CECV Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Action Plan.18 May 2022

The Catholic Education Commission of Victoria Ltd (CECV) has launched the CECV Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Action Plan.

With representatives from all Victorian dioceses, the launch at St Kevin’s College, Toorak, recognises and values the unique position of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia’s holistic and educational landscape. The Education Action Plan embeds a foundation stone statement – the commitment of the CECV to support schools and the actions that will enable them to strengthen each of the following priority areas:

  • Catholic identity
  • leadership, quality teaching and workforce development
  • culture and identity
  • partnerships
  • attendance
  • transitions and pathways
  • literacy and numeracy.

Following a smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country by Aunty Joy Murphy Wandin, the launch was also the opportunity to present two new possum cloaks. These cloaks have been designed and made for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at Catholic schools in Victoria to wear at their graduation ceremony.

The Education Action Plan is available on the CECV website.
