Student leaders from the St Paul’s Campus of Emmanuel College, Altona North.19 May 2022

Student leaders from the St Paul’s Campus of Emmanuel College, Altona North, hosted a visit from their local member of parliament to learn some important lessons in leadership.

Tim Watts MP, Member for Gellibrand, discussed effective teamwork, how to work as a group to achieve goals and the importance of communication during his visit to the college. He also worked with students on their individual tasks and helped them with their projects. The student leaders reflected on what it means to be a leader in their school.

‘As a leader, I think it’s important to represent my school community by ensuring I am always a role model to my fellow students’, said college captain Jake. ‘Tim Watts talked about how to overcome potential struggles which may arise when working in a team, which made me think of what it means to be a leader in my school community.’

‘As a leader, I think it’s important to represent my school community by being a dependable person and someone who is reliable’, said Year 9 student leader Jesse. ‘Tim Watts talked about how to be a true leader within a group setting, which made me think of what it means to be a leader in my school community.’

‘As a leader, I think it’s important to represent my school community by setting an example to fellow students, while contributing and assisting in school events’, said Year 8 student leader Matthew. ‘Tim Watts talked about certain rules that he applies to himself. These are to make sure he listens before speaking and respects other opinions, which made me think of what it means to be a leader in my school community.’
