3 October 2022

As students and teachers return to classrooms following the school holidays, there is much to look forward to during the new term.

Although VCE assessments for language and performance subjects start today, the VCE exam period begins on Wednesday 26 October with the English and English as an Additional Language (EAL) exams taking place. Term 4 is also an exciting period for children preparing to enter school for the first time, Year 6 students getting ready for the move from primary to secondary school and Year 12s preparing for life beyond school.

World Teachers Day takes place this year on Friday 28 October. Although recognised internationally on 5 October, this special day is held on the final Friday of October in Australia to accommodate states that are still on holidays at the start of the month. Towards the end of the term, the season of Advent begins. It is a time of preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus.

Upcoming events include:

  • 16 October: Anti-Poverty Week (until 22 October)
  • 26 October: VCE exam period begins (until 16 November)
  • 28 October: World Teachers Day
  • 1 November: The Solemnity of All Saints
  • 1 November: Melbourne Cup Day (public holiday)
  • 11 November: Remembrance Day
  • 13 November: World Day of the Poor
