The newest facilities at St Joseph’s College, Ferntree Gully, have been officially opened and blessed.

Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) Executive Director, Dr Edward Simons joined Archbishop Peter A Comensoli and Principal Cathy Livingston at the official opening and blessing of Francis de Sales Cross (Year 7, Science, STEM, Digital Technologies) and Don Bosco Place (Years 11 and 12, Visual and Performing Arts). The buildings have been named in honour of the college’s Salesian traditions.

‘As you walk through these spaces, know that these spaces have been designed primarily for our students as spaces of welcome and joy’, said Cathy. ‘As our Salesian charter states, we are a home that welcomes, a parish that evangelises, a playground where friends meet and enjoy themselves, and a school that prepares for life.’

The new facilities include learning areas, breakout spaces and countless opportunities for the students to thrive in their education.

‘As you all know, it’s not the buildings themselves that are what we are to do here. The new facilities will provide amazing learning opportunities for the students now and well into the future’, said Archbishop Peter. ‘Go into these spaces, bringing with you Jesus Christ, the way of living that is good for yourselves and for those who you will meet in your journey in the years ahead.’

The ceremony concluded with a performance by the college choir of ‘Meet me at the fountain’, composed by Head of Music and Ministry, Bronwyn Dean.
