opening of the new buildingsTwo new buildings were officially opened at St James the Apostle School, Hoppers Crossing North, as the school continues to cater for the learning needs of its community.

The Wominjeka and Compostela buildings were blessed by parish priest Fr Jude Pirotta, with the school’s former principal, Mary Abbott, joining the celebrations. ‘Today’s event recognises the hard work of everyone in the school community to bring the vision of these facilities to reality’, said Principal Andrea Richards. ‘It’s a great tribute to the vision of Mary, who began the building works. The completion and formal opening symbolise our determination as a learning community to cater to the needs of our young learners and maximise opportunities for them, now and well into the future.’

The Wominjeka building, named in honour of a Woiwurrung expression of welcome, contains facilities for school administration, office spaces, staff preparation areas and a first aid room. The Compostela building, named in honour of a pilgrimage site in Spain, is a flexible learning space with four general learning spaces and a project space with wet area. Member for Lalor, Joanne Ryan MP represented the Australian Government at the opening. The building project was made possible with a grant of $1.5 million from the government.
