The school community at Our Lady of the Assumption School, Cheltenham, joined with the parish community to celebrate an important milestone and to officially open some wonderful new facilities.

To coincide with the school’s 70th anniversary celebration, the community hub, library, staff resource room, STEM room and new open spaces were officially opened and blessed. The school and parish communities were joined by Auxiliary Bishop for the Southern Region, the Most Rev Anthony Ireland, Parish Priest Fr Alan Fox, Member for Bentleigh Nick Staikos and Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) Executive Director Dr Edward Simons for the celebrations.

Colleen Gleeson, a parishioner and past student, reflected on the early life of the school, and the enduring story of the school and the church. ‘There remains one constant over all that time, and that’s been a strong and vibrant faith community with dedicated teachers, committed parents and a supportive parish all working together to provide the best possible education for our children’, she said. ‘The school’s story is far from over, so kids and all your families, it’s your turn now to write the next chapter.’

‘The dedication of our teachers and staff over the years has been amazing’, said Principal Richard Jacques. ‘There is no doubt that we have been blessed with exceptional ones at OLA and relationships between our community members are so important.’
