Congratulations to students from Our Lady of Good Counsel School, Deepdene, who have been announced joint winners (with Gunbalanya School from the Northern Territory) of the national final of The Andy Thomas Space Foundation ‘Kids in Space’ program in Adelaide today.

The program challenged students from around the country to use technologies to identify and solve problems in space, or on earth, moderated against United Nations sustainability goals.

Our Lady of Good Counsel School students explored growing healthy food in space, in low or zero gravity environments, recognising all the constraints for growth and survival.

The Year 6 students excelled, demonstrating clear design processes, along with empathy for others and the environment. The team also displayed a distinct prototyping cycle, from exploring first ideas to building, testing and improving final products.

This is an outstanding achievement by Our Lady of Good Counsel School.

The team won the right to represent Victoria at the national event from 40 competing schools in July.
