Pathways for all at St Joseph’s College
15 July 2024
St Joseph’s College, Ferntree Gully, has been selected as a finalist for the Small Training Provider category in the 2024 Victorian Training Awards. The college was the only secondary school among the 40 finalists announced by the Minister for Skills and TAFE, the Hon Gayle Tierney MP, last week.
Principal Cathy Livingston acknowledged the staff at St Joseph’s College, in particular, Director of RTO and Pathways, Vivienne Egan, and the talented group of trainers and support staff.
‘This recognition is a testament to their collective dedication to providing exceptional vocational education and training. It reflects the hard work and commitment of every team member, which profoundly impacts our students’ success and the broader community’, she said.
St Joseph’s College believes in ‘pathways for all’, offering academic and vocational pathways, seeking to find the right match for each student, and leveraging strong links to local community, industry, education and training sectors.
The nationally recognised VET certificates and qualifications offered include:
- Certificate II in Building and Construction
- Certificate II in Electrotechnology
- Certificate II in Plumbing.
The significance of the work of Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) schools providing vocational and applied learning opportunities to enable all students to flourish is reinforced by today’s World Youth Skills Day. This United Nations day of observance was established ‘to celebrate the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship’.
As UN Secretary-General António Guterres said, ‘Today, and every day, let’s work to transform education. And let’s ensure that youth have what they need to build skills for shaping a more peaceful, sustainable future for all’.
Winners of the 70th Victorian Training Awards, which recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of individuals and organisations in the Victorian vocational education sector, will be announced on Friday 30 August 2024.
