School and parish working together in Rosary Club
6 November 2025
As we begin October, the month dedicated to the holy Rosary, I invite you to pray the Rosary every day for peace in our world (Pope Leo XIV).
Last month, Principal of St Brendan’s School in Flemington, Kellie Noonan invited Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) Director of Catholic Mission and Identity, Dr Nigel Zimmermann, as well as Director of Finance, Infrastructure and Digital, Anthony O’Shannessy, to join the staff and students for their regular Friday Rosary Club.
A parish volunteer leads the Rosary Club, which was developed by the parish of St Brendan’s and the school community. Each week, between 20 and 30 children join in the 20-minute session, and they participate wholeheartedly.
On the day of Nigel’s and Anthony’s visit, the students finished their prayer by singing the traditional hymn ‘Hail, holy Queen’ with gusto. ‘The opportunity to pray with students who are being formed and catechised through their learning of the story of the Rosary was a great blessing’, said Nigel.
The practice of Rosary Club is an exceptional example of ‘working together in mission’ and fulfils the objectives of the MACS Faith Formation Framework, Forming Hearts. ‘It is beautiful to watch the students’ spiritual growth through our weekly Rosary practice and it’s become a vital part of our work at the school in supporting the formation of the whole child’, said Kellie.
