The Dante Alighieri Society is a global organisation that promotes Italian language and culture internationally. Its Melbourne branch is the longest running of any English-speaking country and hosts an annual poetry recitation competition for students in Years 9–12.

Dozens of Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) students competed in the 2026 finals, with seven taking home prizes.

Reaching the finals of this competition involves receiving 98 marks out of 100, which shows the impressive talent and tenacity of our high-achieving students.

  • Ave Maria College, Aberfeldie – four finalists from Year 9; two finalists from Year 11
  • Caroline Chisholm Catholic College, Braybrook – eight finalists from Year 9
  • Catholic Regional College, Caroline Springs – one prize winner: Sophie from Year 9 (first prize)
  • Emmanuel College, Altona North – one finalist from Year 10
  • Emmaus College, Vermont South – one finalist from Year 9; four finalists from Year 10; one finalist from Year 11
  • MacKillop Catholic Regional College, Werribee – 16 finalists from Years 9–12; four prize winners: Martina (first prize) and Taj (second prize) from Year 10; Nicolo from Year 11 (second prize); Cristina from Year 12 (third prize)
  • Marymede Catholic College, South Morang – 22 finalists from Years 9–12; one prize winner: Federico from Year 11 (third prize)
  • Nazareth College, Noble Park North – one finalist from Year 9
  • Sacred Heart Girls’ College, Hughesdale – eight finalists from Year 9; one prize winner: Shenaya from Year 9 (second prize)
  • Monica’s College, Epping – four finalists from Year 9; two finalists from Year 11.
