From 16 to 66: 50 years of dedicated service to Catholic education
29 June 2026
On 25 June 2026, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Ringwood celebrated both its namesake’s feast day and a remarkable milestone for much-beloved community member Therese Taggart.
The Taggart family have been active and devoted members of the local parish for decades, and Therese grew up closely connected to the life of the community. She attended Ringwood State Primary School before transitioning to Mitcham Special School in Year 6.

In 1976, when Therese was 16, her mother sought an opportunity for her to become part of the working parish community. In response to her request, the parish priest offered a simple yet profound assurance: ‘Don’t you worry, Joan. I will create one!’

And so began Therese’s journey at Our Lady’s as a teacher aide in the junior classrooms – the beginning of five decades of loyal and wholehearted service. Therese has made invaluable contributions to the school, undertaking a wide range of administrative and support tasks with dedication, initiative and pride.

Her commitment has remained steadfast: she continues to work five days a week and is one of the school’s greatest sources of knowledge. Therese’s story is one of perseverance, belonging, loyalty and service. The shared care between Therese and the whole parish and school community has created a lovely legacy. A birdbath dedicated to Therese is now part of the campus and the heart of the school.
