Statement from Catholic Education Melbourne Acting Executive Director Jim Miles:

‘The events reported in the media about St Kevin’s College, Toorak, over recent days are deeply distressing.’

‘As the governing authority for that school, Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) is responsible for working with the St Kevin’s College community to directly address the matters raised in the Four Corners report.’

‘It is clear there are significant issues for the St Kevin’s College leadership to address.’

‘The people of Victoria rightly expect that Catholic school systems act responsibly in addressing complaints, protecting students, and ensuring schools are safe and welcoming.’

‘In this regard, Catholic Education Melbourne has policies, procedures and practices in place to ensure there is zero tolerance for any form of child sexual abuse.’

‘All of these policies and practices are regularly examined through such bodies as the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) and the Commission for Children and Young People (CCYP).’

‘We remain committed to continuing these practices, enabling accountability, and ensuring the protection of all children and vulnerable people.’
