The Catholic Education Commission of Victoria Ltd (CECV) has welcomed the Victorian Coalition’s pledge to restore a police in schools program, Executive Director Stephen Elder says.

‘Catholic education is based on a sense of service to the community,’ Mr Elder said.

‘We not only constantly strive to create safe and secure learning communities where every student can be their best.

‘We aim to instil the values of good citizenship. We want our students and graduates to be contributors to the community.

‘Working with police in schools can play an important role in this.

‘Our schools are already active and involved in their local areas – and we all know the importance of grassroots policing and activities such as Crime Stoppers in maintaining community safety.

‘Catholic schools will welcome the opportunity to build relations between the many diverse communities we represent and law enforcement through police in schools, along with strengthening our community involvement and assisting with community safety.’
