St Charles Borromeo Catholic Primary School is part of the Serpell Community School Campus that nestles in 13 acres of land in Templestowe. St Charles is a unique school set-up that was established in 1983. The school shares core facilities with Serpell Primary School, such as a community hall, a school library, art facilities and a joint canteen.

At St Charles Borromeo School, classes are intentionally composed of children of different ages in multi-age settings. Such groupings reflect our beliefs and understandings about how children learn. The school has eight classrooms, a wide range of specialists and a dedicated staff. St Charles has vast facilities and grounds. All classrooms are networked and have access to the Internet. We are involved with inter-school sport as well as swimming and camp programs.

At St Charles Borromeo we aim to be a place of learning – and of fun! We offer a comprehensive curriculum, encompassing Religious Education and the eight Key Learning Areas. School liturgies and sacramental programs involving children as well as families are important in our commitment to develop a Christian community.

We focus on the needs of individuals rather than those of the year group or level as a whole. The children have the opportunity to work with others on the basis of skills, interests, personality and age. Much like a family, the children support and are supported by other members of the group and work cooperatively with students of different ages, allowing them to recognise the range of abilities and talents within their class group and resulting in a wider variety of relationships and social experiences. Our school motto is ‘Large enough to provide, small enough to care’.
