St Mary of the Cross MacKillop Catholic Parish Primary School (SMCM) in Epping North is a vibrant, faith-filled community that values diversity and student-centered learning. SMCM is seeking a Literacy Leader who is a skilled classroom practitioner with a passion for literacy and leadership, to guide our school in embedding the MACS Vision for Instruction and improving outcomes for all students. This is a full time ongoing position with a POL 2.

The School Literacy Leader will:

  • Lead continuous school improvement in the area of literacy, implement school improvement goals and inspire in our students a love of reading, writing, listening and speaking 
  • Develop, model, implement and monitor whole school literacy learning grounded in the MACS Vision for Instruction and aligned with the English Curriculum 2.0
  • Collaborate with and support teachers in the design, implementation and assessment of an effective literacy program that is informed by data and meets the needs of all students
  • Model and coach staff in the implementation of effective literacy instruction including daily retrieval practice, check for understanding and engagement norms
  • Lead and promote staff professional learning opportunities including regular literacy PLCs
  • Undertake professional learning in order to be informed with best practice and latest curriculum initiatives
  • Maintain, collate, analyse and communicate assessment data to drive student improvement in literacy
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the Curriculum Team to support and develop consistency through all learning and teaching practices
  • Liaise with the Literacy Intervention teacher and Learning Diversity Leader to identify students requiring literacy intervention inline with the Intervention Policy
  • Support Learning Support Officers to implement targeted literacy intervention
  • Liaise with the Learning & Teaching Leader to strategically maintain literacy resources
  • Have an applied knowledge of the EAL Curriculum to support staff in engagement and implementation
  • Be an active member of the Leadership Team by enacting the Educational Vision and Philosophy of our school and taking on responsibilities that contribute to the smooth running of our school
  • Contribute to the School Annual Report in line with the School Improvement Plan

Requirements:

  • VIT registration
  • Accreditation to teach in Catholic School and/or committed to providing a Catholic education for all students
  • Committed to upholding the SMCM Child Safety Policy and Code of Conduct
  • Experience with evidence-based literacy instruction, particularly in alignment with the MACS Vision for Instruction. Knowledge of phonics based instruction, morphology, the Reading and Writing rope, Talk for Writing and OCHRE Novel studies will be an advantage.
  • Post graduate qualifications or a commitment to a postgraduate qualification in the next 2 years.
  • Dedicated to catering for the individual needs of students in a school wide positive behaviour for learning environment
  • Committed to building authentic relationships with all staff, children and families
  • Willing to work collaboratively with others in a flexible learning environment
  • Proven communication, organisational and time management skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a spirit of collegiality within a team
  • Demonstrate capacity to lead and manage in ways that values and upholds high expectations of staff and students and that promote learning, growth and success
  • Demonstrate ability to reflect on one’s own practise and commitment to ongoing professional learning and growth in the areas of education and leadership
  • Proven commitment to our Catholic Tradition and Community & Family Engagement.
