Prep Classroom Teacher Position (Maternity Leave Position)
St Joseph’s Primary School, Elsternwick, is a thriving Catholic school community committed to excellence in teaching and learning, strong partnerships with families, and the holistic development of every child.
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Prep Classroom Teacher to join our team for a 12-month maternity leave replacement commencing Term 3, 2026. There is a possibility of ongoing employment beyond this period for the right candidate.
At St Joseph’s, we are proud to be at the forefront of evidence-based teaching practices, particularly in the areas of structured literacy and the Science of Reading. Our teachers work collaboratively within a supportive professional culture that values explicit instruction, strong instructional routines, and continuous professional learning.
Commencement: July 13, 2026
The successful applicant will:
- Teach a Prep class within a highly collaborative junior school team
- Deliver high-quality instruction grounded in the Science of Learning and the Science of Reading
- Implement Structured Literacy approaches, including Multisensory Structured Language (MSL) practices
- Work closely with colleagues in Professional Learning Teams to analyse student data and plan targeted instruction
- Contribute positively to the vibrant life of the school community
Applicants should demonstrate:
- A commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education
- Strong knowledge and experience in Structured Literacy and explicit teaching practices
- Experience or training in Multisensory Structured Language (MSL) or a willingness to undertake professional learning in this area
- The ability to build positive and supportive relationships with students, colleagues and families
- A commitment to collaborative practice and ongoing professional growth
Special Requirements:
- accreditation to teach in a Catholic school, or a willingness to obtain accreditation to teach Religion in a Catholic school
- current VIT registration (or eligibility for graduates)
