Role Description/Criteria
The Careers and Pathways Practitioner plays a pivotal role within the College, with responsibility for providing high-quality information, guidance, and resources to support students as they navigate their future pathways.
This role empowers students—and the wider Saint Ignatius College community—to engage with the evolving world of work, training, further education, and academic pathways. As part of the Careers and Pathways Team, they draw on expert knowledge to deliver future-focused programs that build student aspirations, foster career and academic readiness, and support successful post-school transitions in a dynamic global landscape.
The Careers and Pathways Practitioner provides impartial and personalised course, career, academic, and pathway advice to students through individual counselling, subject selection guidance, and collaboration with families, employers, and external agencies. The role also supports the coordination of key careers education events and initiatives, while contributing to the administration of major programs across the College.
Essential Key Selection Criteria:
1. Demonstrated knowledge of emerging careers and future-focused tertiary pathways, with the ability to guide and inspire students in navigating a rapidly evolving world of work.
2. Demonstrated expertise in delivering individual and group career and pathway counselling, providing impartial and student-centered guidance to support informed pathway decisions for secondary school students.
3. Strong knowledge of secondary and tertiary education pathways, vocational education and training (VET), apprenticeship/traineeship options, and current labour market trends, including interstate and international post-secondary opportunities.
4. Experience working collaboratively with students, families, educators, and external stakeholders to facilitate effective career development, transition planning, and access to work experience placements.
5. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the capacity to engage and motivate students, deliver presentations, and maintain professional relationships within a school community.
6. Ability to maintain accurate records, manage confidential information, and use career development software and data systems effectively.
7. Commitment to promoting equity and inclusivity by providing culturally responsive and accessible career services to students from diverse backgrounds, including those with disabilities and First Nations students.
8. Capacity to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating strong organisational skills, initiative, and a solution-focused approach.
9. Willingness to engage in ongoing professional learning to stay informed of developments in career education, educational policy, and labour market changes.
10. A demonstrated commitment to Catholic education and the Ignatian charism, with a willingness to support the College’s faith life, uphold its mission, and promote holistic student formation through faith, service, and excellence
Employment: 12 month-fixed term contract for 2026 with the potential for ongoing.1.0 FTE (or part-time by negotiation)
In 2026, two 1.0 FTE positions will be required at the College to support the Year 10 and Year 12 cohorts. This will be followed by the addition of a 1.0 FTE position for the Year 11 cohort in 2027.
Commencement Date: 27th January 2026 or earlier as negotiated.
