Role Description/Criteria

Galilee Regional Catholic Primary School has an enrolment of approximately 370 students and is located in the heart of South Melbourne. We have a new sporting facility with a full sized basketball stadium that opened at the end of 2024. We are seeking to appoint a Physical Education Teacher and Sports Co-Ordinator to join our School Community in 2026. We require a skilled and innovative Physical Education Teacher with a passion for teaching and learning and experience in, or knowledge of, evidence based pedagogical approaches in Physical Education.

The position is full time. Physical Education lessons for Prep to Year 6 occur on 4 days - Monday - Thursday, which includes planning time. Sports Coordination; organising and running school based sports competitions and events and interschool sport competition will occur on Fridays.

Experienced teachers of Physical Education and Sport Co-ordination or Graduate teachers with a passion for Physical Education are both welcome to apply.

The successful applicant will develop and nurture ongoing positive relationships within our School Community, communicate effectively, be willing to train and prepare students for sporting events and promote a positive school culture that incorporates shared staff values and beliefs.

Selection Criteria

Written applications should address the following selection criteria:

  • Demonstrated ability to create a vibrant and inclusive Physical Education learning environment in which all students are engaged, motivated, and challenged.
  • Sound knowledge of the Victorian Curriculum 2.0, with the ability to deliver appropriate and differentiated programs that cater to a range of educational abilities within each class.
  • Proven experience in analysing a variety of student data to identify individual learning needs and plan targeted, differentiated Physical Education programs.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with a demonstrated willingness to prepare and support students for sporting events and activities.
  • Commitment to working professionally, collaboratively, and enthusiastically with colleagues, students, and parents to build and maintain positive relationships within the school community.
  • Ability to liaise effectively with external agencies to develop and strengthen community partnerships.

     

Special Requirements

  • MACS is committed to the safety, wellbeing, and protection of all children in our care. The successful candidate must hold or acquire and maintain Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration.
  • Applications must include the names and contact details of three current referees, including current or most recent Principal or fourth year supervising teacher.
  • Accreditation to teach Religious Education or be prepared to undertake such accreditation should the position become longer term.
  • Candidates must hold a valid visa and/or full Australian Working Rights and provide evidence of this.
