Role Description/Criteria

Teach the whole child

At Christ the King, we believe that a healthy child is a confident, connected and capable learner. We are seeking a passionate Health specialist who sees every lesson, whether it's in the classroom, in the hall or in outdoor spaces, as an opportunity to grow students' bodies, minds and hearts.

This is a role for a teacher who understands that teamwork, resilience, fair play and self-awareness are learned through movement as much as through discussion, and who knows that great teaching is built on how students actually learn. If you want to teach Health and Physical Education in a way that builds the whole child, we would love to hear from you.

This is a combined role. You will spend part of your week as our Health and Wellbeing Specialist and two days a week as a classroom teacher, giving you the best of both worlds: the chance to lead a specialist program across the school, and the deep relationships and daily impact that come with your own class.

Graduates are warmly encouraged to apply.  V. I. T. “moving to full registration” can be supported if required.

About our school

Christ the King is a Catholic primary school in Braybrook serving students from Prep to Year 6. Our community is inclusive, warm and known for our welcoming environment.

Christ the King is a warm, welcoming and inclusive community where student learning and well-being are at the heart of all we do. Guided by our Catholic values and inspired by our school’s vision, we nurture a culturally rich, stimulating learning environment grounded in excellence and positive relationships.

Tracie Kunigiskis- School Principal

About the role

As our Health and Wellbeing Specialist, you will:

  • Design and deliver a Health and Physical Education program aligned with the Victorian Curriculum, with social and emotional learning (SEL) embedded in every unit, not added on at the end.
  • Have the autonomy to shape and build the program, bringing your own ideas and expertise to how Health and Wellbeing is taught at Christ the King.
  • Draw on approved Health units and resources, such as Choicez, with the flexibility to adapt and modify them to meet the needs, interests and abilities of your students.
  • Use physical education as a vehicle for SEL. Games, sport and movement become opportunities for students to practice self-regulation, cooperation, empathy, persistence and respectful communication.
  • Apply the science of learning in Health and PE, using explicit teaching of skills and concepts, modelling and worked examples, and retrieval and spaced practice so that students remember and apply what they learn, both in movement skills and in their health and wellbeing knowledge.
  • Develop the Personal and Social Capability alongside Health content, helping students recognise and manage emotions, build positive relationships and make responsible decisions.
  • Assess and report on relevant capabilities, connecting student progress in Personal and Social Capability (and other capabilities where relevant) to the Health and Physical Education achievement standards.
  • Connect with our existing wellbeing programs, including:
  • Respectful Relationships
  • Positive Behaviour for Learning
  • Choisez Media Units
  • Blue Earth
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers in your team, our wellbeing team and families to support a consistent, whole-school approach to student wellbeing.

As a classroom teacher two days per week, you will:

  • Work as a team partner in learning communities, becoming a valued member of the teaching team.
  • Deliver explicit, high-impact lessons in Literacy and Numeracy grounded in the science of learning, using clear explanations, modelling, worked examples, guided and independent practice, and regular checks for understanding.
  • Use retrieval and spaced practice to help students build lasting knowledge and skills.
  • Plan, assess and report collaboratively with your team, using student data to monitor progress and adjust teaching.
  • Bring your wellbeing expertise into the classroom, building strong relationships, consistent routines and a calm, positive learning environment where every child feels they belong.
  • Communicate with families and work with your team partner to share the care and progress of every student.

About you: We are looking for a teacher who:

  • Has specialist knowledge of, and a passion for, teaching and learning, Health and Physical Education
  • Is a confident classroom teacher, or an eager graduate, who can plan and deliver explicit Literacy and Numeracy lessons, adjusting teaching methods to engage and differentiate.
  • Has a strong understanding of social and emotional learning frameworks and how to embed them in practical, active lessons.
  • Understands, or is eager to develop confidence in, assessing and reporting on the Victorian Curriculum in all subject areas.
  • Has exceptional practice in collecting, documenting and interpreting data for measuring impact on learning and planning future learning.
  • Has a strong understanding of the science of learning and applies it across all settings, including explicit instruction, cognitive load theory, worked examples, retrieval and spaced practice, and regular checks for understanding.
  • Builds warm, positive relationships with students and creates inclusive learning environments where every child can participate and succeed.
  • Plans and creates an engaging Health and Physical Education program, including water safety, swimming and whole school athletics
  • Works collaboratively and is open to feedback, coaching and ongoing professional learning.
  • Supports the Catholic ethos and mission of our school.
  • Implements and follow School Wide Positive Behaviour for Learning framework and strategies.

Whether you are a graduate or an experienced teacher, we will support you to grow into the role.
