The culturally diverse community at Kolbe Catholic College, Greenvale Lakes, celebrated everything that unites them during their Cultural Awareness Week.

Throughout the week, the college organised a series of engaging and immersive activities to foster cultural appreciation, encourage dialogue and promote inclusivity. Activities included Indian dancing, multicultural mask-making, Arabic dancing and drumming, Pasifika weaving, and mindfulness drawing and meditation.

‘We need to be aware of cultural differences to be able to celebrate them’, said Principal Nick Scully. ‘This is a great opportunity for students to emphasise their culture and cultural differences within the community.’

Food trucks also tempted the tastebuds with opportunities to sample a delectable range of dishes including Dutch pancakes, gelati, banh mi, tacos, kebabs and pizzas to foster a spirit of culinary exploration and appreciation for global cuisine.

The week-long event was part of the college’s commitment to promoting multicultural understanding and celebrating the diverse backgrounds of its students. The college boasts a diverse student body representing 28 different countries with almost 70 per cent of students having at least one parent born outside Australia.
