The first stage of St Lawrence of Brindisi Catholic Primary School, Weir Views, has been officially opened.

The second primary school in St Anthony’s Parish, Melton South, St Lawrence of Brindisi Catholic Primary School first opened for students at the beginning of the 2022 school year to serve the growing communities in Melbourne’s west. Together with guests Bishop Martin Ashe, Auxiliary Bishop for the Western Region; Parish Priest Fr Fabian Smith; Sam Rae MP, Member for Hawke; Cr Lara Carli, Mayor of Melton City Council; and representatives from Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS), the school’s stage one facilities were officially opened and blessed.

‘Great buildings that support deep learning are a fabulous asset to any school, but ultimately they mean little without engaged learners to fill them’, said Principal Bill Hill. ‘I know I speak for every staff member here today when I say that our biggest privilege and greatest asset is our children, and the opportunity we get to support, nurture and learn from them every day. Our students are what makes St Lawrence of Brindisi Catholic Primary School a great school.’

Representing the Hon Jason Clare MP, Minister for Education, Sam Rae spoke of the importance of teaching, with an eye on the next generation of educators. ‘Hopefully a number of you will want to become teachers. Teaching is one of the most important professions and right now Australia needs as many new passionate teachers as we can get to inspire future generations of young students, just as your teachers are doing every day.’

The second stage of construction was completed earlier this year, comprising nine new general learning areas, basketball courts, extension to the carparks and general improvements to accommodate the rapidly growing community. St Lawrence of Brindisi Catholic Primary School is one of five Catholic schools in the City of Melton, currently educating over 3100 primary and secondary students.
