New facilities in Maribyrnong
9 September 2024
Guests, including state member for Footscray, Katie Hall, and Executive Director of Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS), Dr Edward Simons, officially opened new and refurbished infrastructure at St Margaret’s Primary School, Maribyrnong.
The project consisted of refurbishment of the administration facilities, including teacher planning areas, and the building of new classrooms which are currently being used for Year 2 students.
‘The way that the learning spaces are designed comprises spaces that are joined together so the teachers can collaborate and co-teach’, said Acting Principal Vicky Augello. ‘The new areas outside the learning spaces easily allow for outside learning for subjects like art or science.’
‘It’s hard to imagine that, back in 1957, there were just two portable classrooms here’, said Katie. ‘In 2024, we’re officially opening your new learning spaces and administration spaces. It’s important to take a moment to think about and reflect on what a difference they’re making.’
Guests at the blessing by Parish Priest Fr Des Moloney included the school’s former principal Gavin Brennan. The project was made possible thanks to a generous contribution of $3 million from the Victorian Government.
