History:
St Margaret's Parish Primary School began in 1957 with two portable classrooms. In 1961 the first brick classroom was built and catered for p/1/2/3 children. At the time, a sister from the 'Our Lady of Sion Convent' was appointed to teach and direct the school. The Midway Hostel was a powerful influence on the number of children attending St Margaret's school. The first census conducted in the early 1960's revealed that 24 languages were spoken in the school and that many of these residents were residents of the hostel. Today St Margaret's is still a g a very multi-cultural school with many different nationalities present.
Description:
The school is located in the North West region of Melbourne on the Maribyrnong river. The school has 14 classes. It has a church attached to the school grounds, new library/ technology resource centre and multi purpose room, a glazed roof has been erected over the outside courtyard. There is a teacher resource room, staff room and canteen. The school is networked for information technology and this is used in a number of creative ways. The yard consists of an adventure playground, netball court and large grasslands boarded by trees. Our education program follows Victorian Curriculum. The learning experiences of children and their cultures are intrinsically linked to our teaching. Children experience excursions to further develop their learning and to allow for the lived experience to tap into their lives.
