History:

Our Lady of Mount Carmel School is one of the three Catholic primary schools serving the Parish of Sunbury. The school was established in 1860 under the management of a lay principal and 32 children were on the roll.

The Sisters of St Joseph arrived in 1916 and continued to serve the school community as principal or staff members until the end of 1989. The following year, 1990, was the first year for 73 years that the Sisters of St Joseph had not had a formal role within the school.

There has been a substantial growth in the area over the past 30 years and this is predicted to continue. A second school, St Anne’s, was opened in 1978 to cater for the growing number of parishioners wanting Catholic education for their children.
The enrolment at Our Lady of Mount Carmel is currently 285.
