History:

St John’s School, Heidelberg, has a rich and proud tradition dating back to 1851. Today we have a student population of 330 students with a considerable increase in numbers in the last few years. We now have 14 classes from Prep to Year 6, comprising two classes at each year level. Our students work and play in a well maintained and attractive learning environment. We now have two designated playground spaces and new gardens, including an updated school entrance. We consider ourselves blessed to have a church on site and the considerable involvement of our encouraging and supportive parish community reflects the values of the Catholic faith community of St John’s. The school values its inheritance of 170 years of tradition and encourages excellence and self-esteem in an atmosphere of care and sensitivity for each student.

Description:

St John’s School is welcoming, caring and committed to excellence. We highly value our school/family/parish partnership and our dedicated and enthusiastic staff, who are committed to providing an excellent standard of education for all students.

Modern buildings enhance the engaging learning experience and provide our students with a well-rounded education, encompassing all areas of the curriculum, including a contemporary Catholic faith-based education.

We provide diverse specialist programs, offering our students learning opportunities in languages, Performing Arts, Digital Technologies, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and Physical Education.

Features:

At St John’s, your children will benefit academically from programs based on sound educational principles and practices. The curriculum is shaped by the Victorian Curriculum and Horizons of Hope. Our Religious Education program is based on the To Know Worship & Love texts. The learning experience is also enhanced through a comprehensive literacy program, additional needs program, Mathematics extension groups, Reading Recovery, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program (SAKGP), inquiry-based excursions and incursions, inter-school sport, visits from the Life Education Unit, community involvement, a playgroup for preschoolers and a Before and After Care program. In addition, we provide opportunities for individual and group musical instrument tuition, out-of-school-hours
tennis coaching and Kelly Sports program.

Parent engagement is an important part of our school and parents are invited and encouraged to participate in the life of the school through the School Advisory Council, the PIC (Partners in Community) group, the Parish Pastoral Council, Parent Class Representatives, Student Led Conferences, Parent/Teacher Interviews and Parent Engagement in the Learning opportunities. We welcome the opportunity to partner with parents in the responsibility and privilege of developing their children spiritually, academically, physically and emotionally.
