History:

In 1929, Camberwell Parish acquired four blocks of land from the Roman Catholic Trust. A brick church and school were erected on the land and blessed and opened by Archbishop Mannix in July 1931. Forty-three children were enrolled in 1932 in the care of the Josephite Sisters from St Joseph's Convent in East Hawthorn. A new classroom was added in 1945 and in 1946 the Parish of St Cecilia's was proclaimed. In 1946 the newly named St Cecilia's School saw its first class of Communicants. The school served the parish for the next 33 years until the present day administration block and new classrooms were built in 1979. An extended and refurbished library was completed in 1998. Today, St Cecilia's is a vibrant learning community with 250 children and a professional team of dedicated and enthusiastic classroom and specialist teachers.

Description:

St Cecilia's is a small Catholic coeducational parish primary school, with Foundation to Year 6 classes and approximately 250 students. An atmosphere of warmth and affection characterises the school in which all students are known personally and encouraged, challenged and supported in their learning by a caring and dedicated staff. We aim to highlight the relevance of faith in life and contemporary culture and our personal commitment to Gospel values permeates our relationships and actions. Our Religious Education program seeks to integrate family and school life in a context of faith. We recognise individual learning styles and value the effort and contribution of each child.
