History:

Corpus Christi School was opened in 1942 in the Yarraville Parish, and was known then as St Flannan's. When the Kingsville Parish of Corpus Christi was established in 1954, the school's name was changed to Corpus Christi. Two Sisters of St Joseph began the school with an enrolment of two students, which grew to 60 in the first year. After the arrival of European migrants and refugees, and because of local industrial growth, the enrolment grew rapidly, peaking at 535 children in 1963.

Weatherboard classrooms, which had been added one-by-one as needed, were severely damaged by a fire in 1962. After the opening of a second parish school and the closing of the migrant hostel, enrolments declined. When Asian and African migrants and refugees came to this area the cultural mix at Corpus Christi changed markedly and the enrolment numbers steadied. The Sisters of St Joseph were involved with the school from 1942 to 1999. In the year 2000 the first lay Principal was appointed.

Description:

Corpus Christi School is a long established Catholic primary school in a quiet pocket of Kingsville. Corpus Christi School works in partnership with parents to educate children to seek what is true, beautiful and good. We provide a safe, stimulating environment that is non-threatening yet challenging, motivating, enjoyable and conducive to learning. Children with special needs are catered for through strategic intervention, Reading Recovery and Number Intervention Program.

The number of students at Corpus Christi varies from year to year, yet is expected to be within the range of 200–220 students in the coming years.

We give high priority for teachers to plan in teams with our Director of Learning and Teaching. The Victorian Curriculum is used as the core resource for planning. At Corpus Christi there is regular contact with parents via newsletters, information nights, Learning Conferences, reporting procedures, open classrooms and informal social gatherings.

Since 1994 there has been an extensive building program in which all learning and administration areas have been rebuilt according to the school's Master Plan with a new Contemporary Learning Communities and Library Discovery Centre.

Over the past ten years there has been an extensive building and development program and our school has been transformed into an inviting, contemporary learning environment with expansive play areas of natural and synthetic sports grass.

Our friendly, professional staff extend a warm welcome to all who join our community.
