History:

Sacred Heart School was established in 1962 to serve a very widespread parish. Until 1970 the Sisters of Mercy were associated with the school. Then the Sisters of Charity were represented on the staff, and in 1985 the first lay Principal was appointed. The school population peaked at 483 students in 1986 and is currently about 230. In 1990 a new administration block was added, which included a staffroom and a sick bay.

Description:

The school is situated on a large block. There are three central wings that enclose a small courtyard. The property enjoys a semi-rural outlook with very good sports facilities and play areas.

We currently have approximately 230 students in nine classes. About 70% of the school population is drawn from the town of Diamond Creek, which is set in rural surroundings on the northern fringe of the Melbourne metropolitan area. Another 20% of students come from smaller nearby townships such as Hurstbridge and Wattle Glen and the remainder from other surrounding areas.

Features:

Our recent renovations have attracted much interest and excitement as students in two sections of the school now have beautifully refurbished classrooms and we all enjoy the bright and spacious new library. Recently we applied for a further capital grant to renovate the junior school. Great ideas for some innovative planning are in the pipeline.

Sacred Heart enjoys the following special features:
Junior School Council, Buddy Systems, the “Seasons” program for students suffering loss, Inter-school sport, a Maths Resource Room and Extension Maths, a School Choir, multi-age classes, out-of-hours school care, a swimming program, excellent playground facilities, well-maintained buildings, and computers in every classroom.
