History:

St Martin De Porres Laverton is the founding school of the five primary schools that make up the Holy Trinity Education Community (HTEC). Located in Bellin Street, it opened in 1972 under the guidance of the Presentation Sisters whose mission was to present the face of God to all those they serve.

The school is named in honour of St Martin de Porres who was known for a life of serving others and particularly for his compassionate care of the sick and poor.

Our motto 'Love and Service to All' captures these values and expresses our commitment to caring for and supporting one another in a faith-filled community.

Today our learning community is made vibrant and purposeful by the 240 students who come together to learn from, and with, each other in a welcoming and modern environment.

Description:

At St Martin de Porres we are proud of the fact that we know everyone by name. We are enriched by the many cultures and backgrounds of our students and their families and as a school community, we are inclusive of all who come here, familiar or otherwise.

We are a multi-faith community and everyone is free to share their beliefs and customs with each other. Importantly though, we are a Catholic school, and all are called to know and celebrate the Catholic faith through prayer and scripture, symbolism and tradition.

We offer a dynamic and innovative learning environment. The minute you walk into our recently refurbished learning spaces, you are met with a sense of calm and a focus on purposeful learning. This is complemented by the buzz of excitement that comes with discovery and creativity.

St Martin de Porres is a Visible Learning school where learners know what they are learning, why, and what success looks like. Learning intentions and success criteria support learners in knowing what to do, be or know. Feedback is focussed on their next step in learning and the dispositions of creativity, curiosity, resilience, reflection, collaboration and motivation are taught and highly valued alongside content knowledge and skill development.

Features:

A complete refurbishment of all learning spaces in 2019 and the provision of new furniture throughout, has ensured a relevant, purposeful and pleasant learning environment.

The school has extensive outdoor playing spaces. There are many grassed areas, including a large oval that is bordered by updated adventure playgrounds. Gardens are continually being developed, upgraded and maintained to provide a safe and stimulating school environment.

Technology is integrated into everyday teaching and learning and a systematic program of technology renewal and upgrade ensures access to 21st century learning tools.

As well as learning in Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Science, the Humanities, Design and Technology, students also engage in specialist subjects including Physical Education, Visual Arts and Languages Other Than English (Italian).

The school provides a before and after school hours program for families, enabling parents to attend to work or personal commitments, safe in the knowledge their child is being well cared for.
