History:
St Jude the Apostle Primary School, Scoresby, is part of the Archdiocese of Melbourne. The first Catholic school in Scoresby, known as Christ the Priest, was opened on 1 February 1972. The first principal was Mr Michael Crilly.
In January 1974 the present pastor, Father Noel Mackay, was appointed Parish Priest of Scoresby. The parish and school were renamed in honour of St Jude the Apostle.
The school grew in numbers year by year as more and more families settled in this new, fast-growing residential area. The school developed from a one-stream to a three-stream school and when St Jude's could no longer cope with the needs for education in this developing area, a new school was built at Rowville – St Simon the Apostle (1982) – and later at Wantirna South – Holy Trinity (1985).
Currently the student population is 295. In 1996 the older section of St Jude's – the school block adjacent to George Street (six classrooms and the library) was completely refurbished. The refurbishment of the middle block began in 2000 and other areas will follow. The office and staff area was thoroughly renovated and extended in 2006, and we are currently upgrading the P–2 area, as well as installing water tanks to become more environmentally friendly.
The school motto is: 'Serve the Lord with Joy'.
Description:
At St Jude's we aim:
• To provide an atmosphere enlivened by the gospel spirit of freedom and love, which will lead the children to embrace Christian values by personal choice.
• To provide a supportive learning environment where children are recognised as thinking, feeling and doing people and the whole person is educated.
• To empower children to reach their full potential, spiritually, socially, physically, intellectually, emotionally and creatively.
• To create an environment where differences are acknowledged and each individual is accepted and valued.
• To be a place where all members of the community are welcomed and encouraged to participate and to feel a sense of belonging – parents, families and visitors.
