History:
St Jude's School, Langwarrin, was established in 1978 and has grown through three building stages. We have an enrolment of approximately 270 children. The school consists of three permanent buildings and a modular building.
Description:
St Jude's is a community consisting of school, home and parish where Jesus and the Catholic faith are our central focus. St Jude's is an active, visible sign of our Catholic faith in our community. We emphasise the concept of family, at home, at school and in the parish.
We aim to provide an environment where we develop the whole child, socially, morally, spiritually, psychologically, physically and academically. We provide opportunities for the child to develop their faith with Jesus as their model and guide.
As a community, we celebrate the visible signs of our faith, the sacraments, as grace-filled moments which provide an opportunity for renewal, development and initiation in our faith journey. Daily prayer is integral to our relationship with God, and the children at St Jude's experience prayer through scripture, liturgy, formal/informal prayers, song, meditation and reflection.
We recognise that Scripture is part of the sacred tradition of our faith. It is divinely inspired and brings us into a living encounter with Jesus' proclamation of the Kingdom which we are called to witness and proclaim. It is an integral part of our Catholic life.
At St Jude's we celebrate the tradition of our Catholic faith through the Eucharistic liturgy. The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life; from it all spiritual life flows. Through the liturgy of the word, we recognise Jesus as the model and guide in our lives. It is our mission to spread the word of God through prayer, song and action.
At St Jude's we use the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) document in our planning of the curriculum. The VELS provide schools with the guidelines and standards to build programs that will meet the needs of the students they teach.
At St Jude's, we provide an integrated, developmental curriculum. Within this curriculum we acknowledge that not all children learn at the same rate and that it is unrealistic and unnecessary for all children to learn the same thing, in the same way, at the same time.
Children at St Jude's are able to approach learning with a greater amount of flexibility that truly reflects an individual perspective. Teachers at St Jude's are able to provide appropriate work through a range of learning experiences and activities which are meaningful to each child.
